Third, fourth, and fifth grade GO Center students at R. S. Payne Elementary School built the Hoover Dam for the 2017 Canstruction project. Canstruction is the Blue Ridge Area Food Pantry's largest annual fundraiser, and many hundred tons of canned food are collected each year to feed those in need. This year's theme was National Landmarks, which was selected by the students. They researched and designed the build, printed it to scale on a 3-D printer in a partnership with students at E. C. Glass High School, and then built it with nearly 7000 cans of food. They are the only team of children in this year's contest. Build projects can be seen throughout downtown Lynchburg this week, including the GO Center students' entry at Amazement Square. Click here to vote for your favorite for the People's Choice Award.
