Dear LCS staff and families,

We wanted to follow up with you after the letter we shared on Friday in regards to the city’s and schools’ proactive response to concerns about the coronavirus COVID-19.

We have received some questions in regards to what extra precautions Lynchburg City Schools will be taking and what our plans are to respond to COVID-19.

Our buildings are being cleaned on a daily basis, and if there are any extra needs the building principals or others in the building are initiating that with the staff. Our nurses are also keeping track of illnesses and encouraging good hand hygiene and cough etiquette, such as washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, avoiding touching the eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands, and covering coughs or sneezes with a tissue (or crook of the arm/armpit).

We are ensuring all students have enough time to wash hands throughout the day.

Students who are sick are sent home, and we ask that if your child is sick, please do not send them to school.  We are also encouraging sick staff to stay home.

LCS administrators are keeping up to date with the most current information about COVID-19. We are collaborating with the health department as they monitor any developments, and we will follow any recommendations they provide in regards operating plans for schools. At this time, school is continuing as normal, and we ask that you work with us to keep everyone healthy!
