Dear LCS families,
Today Governor Northam announced that all Virginia schools will be closed for the rest of the academic year. We know you have many questions about how this will affect you. In the coming days we will address some of your most urgent questions, including how this impacts continuity of education, graduation, and grades.
KEEPING YOU INFORMED
As the governor said in his statement today, things change daily. We are awaiting further guidance from the Virginia Department of Education. Our administrative team meets every day throughout the week to work on our long-term plan. We will communicate this to you as soon as we are able.
ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES
We will continue week two of the school closure by encouraging students to work on the enrichment activities we have provided and distributed. Secondary students, please continue to check Google Classroom and your LCS email accounts.
MEAL DELIVERIES
We will continue delivering meals to all elementary bus stops. However, we are now combining some buses, which means that the times that were originally posted for meal deliveries are not necessarily accurate. We will be asking students and families to please be patient with us as we work to get meals delivered as soon as possible between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. We do want families to contact our transportation department at 515-5100 between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. if they need a bus to return to their stop.
SCHOOLS FOR INNOVATION APPLICATIONS
Our annual application process for our three schools for innovation (Dunbar Middle, Dearington Elementary, and T. C. Miller Elementary) and Bass Elementary will resume. We will be in touch soon about how you can apply for your child to attend one of these schools if you are outside the zone.
STAYING IN TOUCH
It is our goal as educators to stay engaged. We know this is a difficult adjustment for our students, families, and staff. We will stay in touch by continuing to check emails, provide you with evening messages, and update our website and social media sites. If you have any questions about your enrichment activities, reach out to your teachers via email. If you have other questions, contact your school administration team. We are here for you!
