The Lynchburg City School Board approved the Superintendent’s recommendation to appoint Sonia Jammes as the division’s Chief Financial Officer, effective Jan. 16, 2024.
A veteran finance and public administration executive, Jammes brings more than 20 years of experience to the division. Most recently, she served as the City Manager for Jasper, Georgia, where she managed all city departments; implemented local legislation; and liaised between citizens, businesses, and the city government.
"It is an honor to be afforded the opportunity to join the ranks of such an exceptional educational system and use my experience to become a contributor towards the tradition of excellence that is the vision of Lynchburg City Schools,” Jammes said.
Jammes isn’t new to the Lynchburg area; she previously served as the Assistant Town Manager of Bedford, Virginia from 2013-21. Before that, she served as the Associate Director of Administration and Finance at Clemson University and a Financial and Management Analyst for Albemarle County.
An expert in revenue maximization, fiscal management, and strategic leadership, Jammes has a master’s degree in public administration from Clemson University and a bachelor’s degree in business and sociology from Lee University. In addition to her extensive finance and government administration experience, Jammes is a Certified Planning Commissioner (CPC). She’s currently pursuing a Credentialed Manager (ICMA-CM) certification.
“Ms. Jammes brings a proven history of success and a wealth of experience to the division. I’m thrilled to welcome her to the team,” said LCS Superintendent Crystal Edwards. “LCS is committed to fostering financial transparency, efficiency, and innovation in service of our students and the school community.”
