A group of volunteers, joined by Hutcherson Early Learning Center staff, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the city’s second "Little Free Pantry" installation, which is being installed on the Hutcherson campus.
Vector Space, a community makerspace on 5th Street, was awarded a $2,000 grant from The Home Depot Foundation to fund the materials to build five food pantries in our community. They chose Hutcherson Early Learning Center as one of the sites. "We are excited to be able to offer this new program to our community that surrounds and supports our school," said Hutcherson Principal Polly Smith.
The Little Free Pantry movement was brought to Lynchburg by community members Megan Huffman and Kristen O’Neill earlier this year. The duo brought a group of volunteers together and built and installed the first pantry at the Lynchburg Daily Bread in June of 2017.
