Students from every Sandusky Elementary second grade class cycled throughout weather stations to experience and learn about different types of severe weather. In the blizzard room, students made snow and used toy cars and a floor map to simulate what happens during a snowstorm. In the water room, they donned ponchos while they learned about what happens during a flood and a drought. In the wind room, they used fans to learn about the different parts of a hurricane. Through it all, students used their observation skills while they recorded, measured, and interpreted data. Finally, at the end of the lesson, the class learned about what they would need to prepare for severe weather. They packed their own kits to take home and share with their families.
