Dear LCS families,
CONTINUITY OF LEARNING
By now we hope everyone has been able to access the LCS At Home online learning page.
We understand that you may have questions about expectations during this time. The work is intended to provide continued learning experiences to better prepare students for when school resumes. Some concepts may be new while other concepts are important for future success. We are not grading the new content, but teachers are able to provide feedback and monitor student progress. Specific information about final grading will be posted on April 8, 2020.
Teachers are available and answering emails Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
SCHOOLS FOR INNOVATION APPLICATIONS NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE
Applications for our three schools for innovation (Dunbar Middle, Dearington Elementary, and T. C. Miller Elementary) and our one year-round school (Bass Elementary) are now available online.
The deadline to apply is May 1.
You only need to submit an application if you do not live in the zone and are interested in attending one of these schools.
TIPS FOR ATTENDING A ZOOM MEETING WITH YOUR TEACHER
In an effort to stay connected with students, some LCS staff are reaching out to their families via video conferencing through Zoom meetings. Parents, here are some things to keep in mind if you and/or your students are participating in a virtual class meeting:
- Carefully consider the placement of your video camera, being aware of the traffic that may walk behind you during the meeting. Consider sitting in front of a wall or setting up a virtual background to minimize distractions.
- Please respect the privacy of others in the meeting. Do not take screenshots or photos of the call participants and post them to social media. While you may want to share the excitement of your child, others may not want a picture of their family members posted on the Internet.
- Please remind your students to be respectful and kind to their classmates when using the Chat feature. The tone of words and text can be hard to determine when communicating online.
NOTE ABOUT GIFTED IDENTIFICATION
Due to the mandatory school closure as a result of COVID-19, the LCS Gifted Identification Process will be modified for Spring of 2020. Please click here to review the changes.
RESPONSE NEEDED: FAMILY INTERNET AND DEVICE ACCESS SURVEY
We want to make sure we understand your students’ abilities to access the internet and devices during this time. If you haven’t done so, please take a moment to complete this short survey. We are compiling this information so we can determine students’ needs. If you have questions or are unable to complete the survey, please contact Ethel Reeves with the LCS Family Connect Team at [email protected] or (434) 401-6902 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
