Husky T-Shirts Are In! Drive-Up Pick-Up and Distribution Scheduled for Next Week

In 2019, the Bedford Hills Elementary School (BHS) PTO committed to providing EVERY BHS student and staff with a FREE Husky t-shirt. These shirts are worn in unity for school spirit days. In the program's first year, we provided shirts to all students and staff. This year we begin our annual rotation, where all Kindergarten, 3rd grade, and new students and staff will receive a free t-shirt.

We will also be sending home and/or having available for Drive-Up Pick-Up our BHS Learning Kits to provide extra resources to support your learning at home.

Remote learning students (Kindergarten, 3rd, and new students): T-shirt and Learning Kit distribution will occur on Monday, October 26th, from 2:30-5:30 p.m. in the FRONT of the school. Stay in your car as you pull up and we will bring it to you.

Cohort A students (Kindergarten, 3rd, and new students): T-shirts/Learning Kits will be sent home with students on Tuesday, October 27th.

Cohort B students (Kindergarten, 3rd, and new students): T-shirts/Learning Kits will be sent home with students on Thursday, October 29th.

Masks/Face Coverings Updates

On October 6, 2020, the school board adopted Policy JHCCAZ/GBEY regarding masks and face coverings. Please review it carefully and note that bandanas, neck gaiters and scarves are not permitted. All masks and face coverings must cover the nose and mouth and may not contain holes, valves or mesh material. Please read the policy below and contact Mrs. Steele, Principal, with any questions.  [email protected]

MASKS AND FACE COVERINGS

The Lynchburg City School Board (“School Board”) is aware of the evolving need for mitigation measures to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic in a manner that allows schools to open and operate as safely as possible.  In consideration of the recommendations issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Virginia Department of Health, the Virginia Department of Education, and the Central Virginia Health District, the School Board adopts this emergency policy for all students, staff, visitors, and vendors of Lynchburg City Schools (LCS). This policy also covers children and staff in LCS child care programs.

Students and employees shall wear a mask or face covering as provided herein in an LCS school building, in another LCS facility, on school-provided transportation, property and/or campus LCS sponsored event(s).

Students

Until further action by the Superintendent/School Board, all students in pre-kindergarten through the 12th grade and beyond shall be required to wear a mask or face covering: (a) while attending school or a school function in any school building, facility, or other area of a school campus, including at the time of school entry and exit; (b) on an approved trip at any location and, in the case of athletic events, at any home or away athletic site; and (c) when riding in school-provided transportation. All masks and face coverings must cover the nose and mouth of the student and may not contain holes, valves, or mesh material. Bandanas, neck gaiters, and scarves are not permitted. Face shields without an underlying mask or acceptable face covering described in this policy are not permitted. This policy applies to students waiting outside school buildings before and after school. Students waiting at the bus stop are recommended to wear a face mask or face covering. Students shall wear masks and face coverings at all times, except for the following:

  • Students may remove masks and face coverings for eating and drinking while maintaining six (6') feet or other physical distancing measure as approved by the Superintendent/Designee;
  • Students participating in physical education, active recess, sporting events, and practices do not need to wear a mask or face covering if a physical distance of ten (10’) feet can be maintained
    • however, masks or face coverings are required for participants not actively engaged in physical activity, a game, or practice, such as when standing on the sidelines, in a dugout, and off the field of play any time where six (6’) feet or other physical distancing measure as approved by the LCS is not possible;
  • Students may remove masks and face coverings on a case-by-case basis for specific instructional needs or activities, or as otherwise determined by an administrator or a staff member, including to provide a brief respite from wearing a mask or face covering in which case the staff will utilize six (6’) feet or other physical distancing measure as approved by the Superintendent/Designee;
  • Students may be exempted from ; wearing a face mask or face covering herein in a LCS school building(s) or on school grounds, in another LCS facility or while attending a LCS sponsored event(s) due to a medically documented health condition or disability. Face coverings are required for all students when riding in school-provided transportation.
  • Students may also be exempted from this policy due to special behavioral or individualized needs as determined by the Superintendent/Designee or Director of Special Education;
  • For students who refuse to or otherwise do not wear a mask or face covering at school, on school transportation, or at a school function under this policy, every attempt will be made to ensure that the student and the students’ parents understand the importance of wearing a mask or face covering. LCS will then work with families to identify an appropriate learning setting, including remote learning, if students fail to comply with the requirement to wear masks and face-coverings as detailed above. In addition, the measures specified for violations of policy JFC Student Conduct, JFCY Dress and Appearance, and policy JFCC Student Conduct on School Buses may also be imposed, where applicable, to violations of this policy.
