Sheffield Elementary School, Bass Elementary School, and Dearington Elementary School for Innovation were awarded the 2023 Continuous Improvement Exemplar Award this month by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) for demonstrating marked improvement in reading and math over the past three years.
The three schools met the criteria for the recognition by showing “an increase in the combined rate for two or more student groups in reading and math for each of the past three years…with a total increase across the three years of ten points or more,” according to the VDOE.
Sheffield, Bass, and Dearington are among 93 schools in Virginia that earned this honor. Only accredited schools (or those accredited with conditions) were eligible.
"This award is a testament to Sheffield students’ resilience,” said Sheffield principal Lisa Lee. “I’m proud of our students, staff, and LCS community and can’t wait to see how we continue to excel in the years to come.”
